Team members of trusted local solicitors, Bowcock & Pursaill (B&P) have recently completed a series of charity events, receiving over £8,700 in donations. The goal was to raise money for causes that they have been personally affected by, through taking part in campaigns including the Palma Marathon, Swim for Dementia and Race the Sun.
On 10th October 2021, Tim Wolley, Partner at Bowcock & Pursaill, completed the Zafiro Palma Marathon and raised a fantastic £3,620 in memory of his late wife, Henny Jones. The charity that will benefit from the funds is Second Hope, who strive to confront advanced breast cancer and allocate donations to world-class research.
Tim’s wife, Henny Jones was unfortunately diagnosed with breast cancer in 2009 and after surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy she got the all-clear. In May 2014, the cancer had returned, radiotherapy treatment was effective and Henny was given two more years of very precious life. She sadly passed away on 16th June 2016.
Tim commented on his fundraiding experience: “After an early 8am start, I completed the marathon in 4 hours 38 minutes under the warm Majorcan sunshine. The route went along the coast and through the old town, so very scenic but a bit hilly in parts.
He continued: “I am glad to have raised money for Second Hope and the thought of raising money for breast cancer research kept me going.”
Lisa Bradbury, B&P Practice Manager, swam a total of 30 miles or 1920 lengths for the very worthwhile cause, Swim for Dementia. On 27th October 2021, Lisa completed her fundraising and pledged an incredible £3,365 for Alzheimer’s Society.
Lisa remarked: “I would just like to say a huge thank you to all that took time to donate and encourage me along the way! I swim every day and to keep myself motivated, I thought I would do some much needed fundraising for the Alzheimer’s Society.”
Alzheimer’s Society is transforming the landscape of dementia forever. Until the day a cure is found, the charity will create a society where those affected by dementia are supported and accepted, able to live in their community without fear or prejudice.
Swimmers can still get involved as the event is running from from 1st July 2021 to 30th April 2022, alternatively you can donate to Lisa’s JustGiving page.
Lastly, but certainly not least, Clare Thomas, Associate Solicitor at Bowcock & Pursaill completed Race the Sun on 18th September 2021. The Dawn to Dusk Triple Challenge took place through the stunning Lake District. Fundraising for Action Medical Research, teams of four set off at sunrise on the Triathlon-style adventure challenge.
Action Medical Research are the leading UK charity funding vital research to help defeat the diseases that devastate the lives of sick and disabled babies, children and young people.
Clare said: “As a team of 4, we took part in this extremely tough dawn to dusk event where we cycled, hiked and canoed to raise money for this incredible cause.”
There is still time to contribute to Clare’s challenge, where the crucial funds will lead to cures, treatments and medical breakthroughs for some of the toughest fights children face.
